Our take on Zebulon: A Lost Cat
The Pico 8 format trades visual scale and audio complexity for a fixed 128x128 pixel-art presentation, a 16-color palette, and four-channel chiptune audio.
What is Zebulon: A Lost Cat?
Play as Zebulon, a lost cat exploring a strange world filled with traps, falls, collectibles, and hidden powers.
This tiny 2D platformer uses metroidvania mechanics, with observation and newly gained abilities opening routes to higher and deeper areas. Seven modes shape the game: Normal focuses on exploration and collectibles; Bonus requires finding every bonus; Explorer removes the map; Minit imposes a one-minute death timer; Half-Minit imposes a 30-second timer; 9 lives limits deaths; and Deathless allows none. The game uses Pico 8’s 16-color palette, 128x128 pixel art, and four-channel chiptune audio. Zepto 8 adds an optional wide mode and visual filters. A separate free DLC includes the Pico 8 cartridge and source files.
