Our take on Wooden Battles
Rather than making combat depend on constant direct commands, the game places the emphasis on fort layout, unit roles, and watching the resulting engagement. Its tie-breaker further changes the usual defensive structure by removing barriers and forcing stationed troops into a final advance.
What is Wooden Battles?
Wooden Battles is a fort-building battle simulator where players construct bases, position units, and watch automated combat unfold.
Units can attack enemy flags and engage opposing soldiers, or hold their assigned positions until enemies approach. Battles end when one side loses its units or captures the opposing flag; a tie-breaker removes fortifications and sends defensive troops forward. Missions pit players against AI opponents with restricted resources, while Conquest covers a map with five factions and capturable territories. Other modes include 24 unit-specific challenges, endless enemy waves, a sandbox with Steam Workshop sharing, and Turf War. The game includes 13 unit types, with infantry weapon options that vary in accuracy, damage, and firing rate.

Wooden Battles compared to similar games
Wooden Battles centers on constructing forts, assigning offensive or defensive roles, and observing battles across missions, territory capture, survival, and sandbox modes. Rising Front is a large-scale battle simulator with tanks, cavalry, aircraft, and infantry, including first-person and overhead command views.
