Our take on Wednesdays
The focus on testimony, memory, and accessibility comes at the expense of conventional game challenge. Building in Orco Park and arranging discoveries support the narrative, but players seeking demanding mechanics or fast-paced action will find those elements deliberately limited.
What is Wednesdays?
Wednesdays combines a video game with a graphic novel to tell Tim’s story after childhood sexual abuse.
While revisiting the Orco Park game from his youth, Tim confronts memories and questions about his past. Players build rides and decorations in the park to reveal memories in a chosen order, then follow Tim’s relatives as they offer different perspectives. The story addresses intrafamilial sexual abuse without graphic depictions, while focusing on trust, hope, and healing. Comic-inspired artwork presents Tim’s memories, while pixel art shapes Orco Park. Mouse, keyboard, and joystick controls are supported, alongside adjustable text size, an alternative font, manual or automatic text scrolling, and settings for scrolling speed.
How Wednesdays plays
- 01Fragmented Story
- Different viewpoints and a non-linear memory order require piecing together Tim’s past.
- 02Orco Park Building
- Rides and decorative elements in the childhood game reveal additional memories.
- 03Dual Art Styles
- Comic-influenced scenes contrast with pixel-art sections set in Orco Park.
- 04Accessibility Settings
- Options include five text-size levels, a legibility-focused alternative font, and adjustable text scrolling.
- 05Flexible Controls
- The game supports mouse, keyboard, joystick, and D-pad input.
