Our take on Warlord: Britannia
Its first-person command perspective puts the player in the action, but gives up the distance of an entirely detached strategy view. Camp placement and relocation also make the campaign’s field operations central to play.
What is Warlord: Britannia?
Take command of a Roman legion sent to conquer an island in first-century Britain.
Recruit, promote, and upgrade legionaries, build fortified marching camps, and move them as the campaign advances. The first-person view places the commander alongside troops, with the option to fight directly during real-time battles. The open world covers more than 45 square kilometers across forested lowlands, farmland and hills in the Midlands, and desolate highlands. Trading convoys and warbands travel through the world, while local unrest can lead to uprisings and camp raids. Enemy responses grow more aggressive after repeated attacks. The campaign includes attacking settlements and strongholds, and managing where and how long to keep a camp.
How Warlord: Britannia plays
- 01Mobile marching camps
- Camps can be dismantled and moved, with guards assigned to patrol their perimeter at night.
- 02Changing local resistance
- Residents spread news of the legion’s actions, and unrest can bring raids or uprisings.
- 03Large legion command
- The force can include up to 15 Roman centuries and their officers.
