Our take on Warhounds
The emphasis on lethal, carefully calculated encounters gives up the safety of forgiving experimentation. Base finances, medical supplies, downtime, faction choices, and access to future missions add consequences beyond individual firefights.
What is Warhounds?
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical strategy game about a mercenary squad operating in an alternate-future Africa.
Players direct fighters by calculating firing lines, flanking positions, cover, elevation, and overwatch. The squad includes Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier roles, with equipment selected for each mission. Combat uses destructible cover, vertical environments, drones, scanners, smoke, optical camouflage, and lethal damage. Between missions, players recruit personnel, upgrade the base, buy equipment, manage contracts, budgets, medical supplies, and downtime, and choose relationships with allied factions. Covert operations and other decisions affect access to missions, gear, and allies. Missions can take 25–40 minutes, and challenge settings range from brutal to light.

Warhounds compared to similar games
Quasimorph is a high-stakes roguelike about cyberpunk PMC contracts, extraction, and keeping what is recovered, while Warhounds centers on squad positioning, base operations, factions, and mission consequences in an alternate-future Africa. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines cooperative action RPG play with tower defense, loot, leveling, pets, and character customization rather than Warhounds’ turn-based mercenary campaign.
