Our take on Vortex: The Gateway
The defining detail is its two-mode structure: one campaign follows an escape from the island, while the other makes keeping an injured companion alive the central task.
What is Vortex: The Gateway?
Vortex: The Gateway is a survival horror game set across an alien island accessed through an unexplained dimensional rift.
Its story campaign centers on escaping the island while scattered revelations about Earth’s changing situation appear along the way. A separate survival mode requires players to protect Mike, whose serious leg wound makes him especially exposed to creatures on the island. Exploration involves finding food and water, hunting wildlife, gathering materials, making gear, and building shelters, barriers, storage areas, and fires. Survival systems track hunger, thirst, stamina, health, temperature shifts, concealment, and the passage from day to night. The hand-crafted island supports over 30 animal varieties, including both non-threatening and hostile species. Steam achievements are included.
