ActionIs Voltage worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Retro shooter fans who want exploration across varied environments
- Players who enjoy environmental switches, object movement, and traversal mechanics
- Amiga and Commodore 64 enthusiasts seeking a game inspired by those systems
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking the complete planned story may stop at Episode 1, since Episode 2 and Super Retro are still in development.
- Players who want tightly focused combat may find that switches, movable objects, swimming, and exploration interrupt the shooting.
- Players looking for a short campaign may not suit the star-cruiser section, which is described as lasting 100–130 minutes.
Our take on Voltage
Players looking for the full planned setting may bounce after Episode 1 ends, because additional Voltage areas belong to Episode 2 and the complete experience is planned for later. Combat-focused players may also hit a wall when progression requires switches, object movement, swimming, or exploration.
What is Voltage?
Voltage: Episode 1 is a retro-styled action adventure set within AOSYS, a virtual world accessed through prototype VR glasses and an Amiga 500.
The campaign includes eight sublevels, with locations such as a hometown, star cruiser, desert, and bunker, as well as an optional tutorial. Gameplay combines exploration with switches, movable objects, swimming, diving, text conversations, and limited object carrying. Enemies appear throughout the levels, with firearms, explosives, ranged weapons, and melee equipment available. The star-cruiser section is described as providing 100–130 minutes of gameplay. Episode 1 is released, while Episode 2 and Super Retro remain in development.
