Is Voidship: The Long Journey worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want to design and reconfigure a warship
- Space combat fans who want both tactical commands and direct piloting
- Players who enjoy roguelite exploration with crew and resource management
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking short, self-contained missions may find the centuries-long journey and decade-scale travel between star systems slow-paced.
- Players wanting a fixed campaign may not prefer randomly generated maps and roguelite playthroughs.
- Players looking for a purely direct-action space shooter may not want the RTS controls, tactical pauses, and crew decisions.
- Players seeking a base-defense strategy game may prefer a title centered on defending a permanent base.
Our take on Voidship: The Long Journey
Instead of using one control style for space combat, the game switches between RTS command and direct top-down piloting. Its journey also replaces a short campaign with centuries of travel, aging crew, changing needs, and shifting principles for the surviving Terran people.
What is Voidship: The Long Journey?
Command a lone spaceship on a centuries-long mission through unknown sectors and randomly generated maps.
Build the vessel by combining weapons and special modules, then gather resources, technologies, and crew while deciding how to approach different factions and enemies. Crew members have individual strengths and weaknesses, age during the journey, and develop their own needs and thoughts. Tactical combat allows pausing to examine enemy weaknesses and target systems such as engines, weapons, or repair stations. Battles support RTS controls for managing the ship, modules, and other units, or top-down shooter controls for direct piloting. A traditions system defines principles for the surviving Terran people, and the game's scripting data can be modified.
