Is VIY worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Horror-shooter players who want a ritual-focused objective across several nights
- Explorers who enjoy searching large maps for equipment and hidden locations
- Groups of friends seeking monster-versus-hunter multiplayer with role changes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, direct combat loop may lose momentum during map traversal and item gathering before the church ritual
- Players who want a fixed team structure may dislike matches where captured hunters become monsters
- Players looking for a purely single-player horror experience may not want the multiplayer-focused role system
Our take on VIY
The likely bounce point arrives before the horror payoff: players must search a broad map for ritual items, then repeat the church setup across three nights. In multiplayer, the role reversal after a hunter loses their soul may also disrupt groups seeking stable teams.
What is VIY?
VIY is a first-person horror shooter set across a large map with settlements and hidden areas containing weapons, equipment, and mission items.
The main objective is to spend three nights in a church performing an exorcism. Before entering, players gather the required objects and use a power engineer to travel across the map. During the ritual, they draw a holy circle, light four candles, and recite prayers while fighting hostile souls. A bonus objective involves assembling a book to obtain a house key, which opens access to new weapons and other items. Multiplayer supports play with friends across 13 regional servers. Players can choose the monster or hunter role; with 10 players, three become monsters, and captured hunters change sides.
How VIY plays
- 01Three-Night Exorcism
- The central mission requires completing a church ritual over three nights while defending against hostile souls.
- 02Large Exploration Map
- Settlements and concealed locations provide places to search for weapons, gear, and mission items.
- 03Ritual Preparation
- The church ceremony requires a protective circle, four candles, and spoken prayers.
- 04Asymmetric Multiplayer
- Online matches let participants play as hunters or monsters, with captured hunters changing roles.
- 05Book Collection Bonus
- Finding every book part grants a key to a house containing new weapons and additional items.
VIY compared to similar games
VIY combines first-person horror, item searches, a three-night church ritual, and monster-versus-hunter multiplayer. Peekaboo also uses an online hunter-versus-other-side structure, but its opposing players disguise themselves as map objects rather than taking souls and changing roles. The other listed games describe battle royale, emergency-response, or sword-fighting gameplay rather than VIY's ritual horror loop.
