Is Vessel worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Puzzle players who want fluid simulation at the center of every challenge
- Fans of physics-driven experimentation who prefer mechanical environments over broad combat systems
- Single-player players seeking multiple worlds and more than 10 hours of content
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players wanting gameplay beyond fluid puzzles and equipment upgrades may find the overall scope narrow.
- Players seeking a compact experience may find the more-than-10-hour structure longer than preferred.
- Players who prefer conventional 2D or 3D visuals may not enjoy the hybrid presentation.
Our take on Vessel
The liquid simulation gives the game a clear mechanical identity, but it also makes progression depend on learning and applying fluid interactions rather than offering a broad range of gameplay systems.
What is Vessel?
Vessel is a puzzle adventure about Arkwright, an inventor confronting living liquid machines that have spread through a world of industrial progress.
Its gameplay uses simulated water, lava, steam, chemicals, goo, and protoplasm, each with distinct properties that can combine and react. Liquid creatures called Fluros inherit the traits of the substances forming them, allowing them to melt, reform, absorb, or explode. Puzzles require using creature behavior together with fluid interactions, such as attracting a Drinker with goo or directing a Dark Fluro with light.
Equipment upgrades use protoplasm to add new ways to manipulate liquids. The game spans multiple worlds and offers more than 10 hours of content, with a hybrid 2D and 3D visual style and a soundtrack by Jon Hopkins.
How Vessel plays
- 01Simulated liquids
- Water, lava, steam, chemicals, goo, and protoplasm have different properties and can interact with one another.
- 02Living Fluros
- Liquid creatures can melt, reform, absorb substances, and explode according to the material composing them.
- 03Physics-based puzzles
- Challenges combine fluid reactions, creature behaviors, and environmental interactions rather than relying only on visual decoration.
- 04Equipment upgrades
- Protoplasm collected in the world provides new methods for controlling liquids.
- 05Multiple worlds
- The game includes more than 10 hours of content spread across several worlds.
Vessel compared to similar games
Vessel centers its puzzles on simulated liquids, reactive substances, and creatures formed from those materials. Polarity is also a single-player puzzle game, but its described focus is hacking through a secure database in a puzzle-platforming structure rather than manipulating fluids.
