ActionIs Vane worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy choosing their own routes through unfamiliar environments
- Players interested in stories built around a bird transforming into a child
- Players who prefer sparse desert settings with environmental changes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who prefer clearly marked routes may find the self-directed exploration disorienting.
- Players seeking a densely populated or visually busy world may find the minimal desert setting too stark.
- Players looking for a game centered on a different setting may prefer an environment other than a ruined desert.
Our take on Vane
Self-directed exploration gives the desert room to feel mysterious, but it sacrifices clear direction. The sparse setting and possibility of getting lost place more emphasis on personal navigation than on a tightly guided route.
What is Vane?
Vane is an exploratory adventure set in a ruined desert.
Strange golden dust transforms a bird into a child, and the journey continues through both forms. Each perspective provides a way to examine the landscape, investigate its mysteries, and find a path through the barren surroundings. The environment changes and develops as the character travels across it. Rather than following a fixed route, players choose their own direction through a sparse setting where exploration can lead close to becoming lost. An original brooding synth soundtrack accompanies the journey, while the changing world forms part of the game's progression.
