Our take on Unwording
Its defining structure is the way each day's word puzzles produce messages tied to Tom's changing outlook, while the presentation shifts from 2D to 2.5D and 3D as his perspective develops.
What is Unwording?
Unwording follows Tom, who sees ordinary objects as difficult word puzzles connected to feelings of lack and defeat.
Solving them produces messages that reflect his negative thought patterns. After a yellow bird enters through his open window, Tom explores his neighborhood and begins reconsidering how he sees his life and surroundings. The story unfolds without spoken dialogue and uses three visual styles, moving from 2D through 2. 5D to 3D. Puzzles change with each in-game day and contribute to the narrative. An optional reduced-challenge mode is available for players who want to focus on the story. A soundtrack by Trevor Kowalski develops alongside the game.
