We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Fans of precision platformers who want difficult vertical climbs
- Players who enjoy planning jumps around environmental layouts
- Players who seek secrets and character reactions between demanding attempts
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want forgiving platforming may hit a wall when a missed jump damages progress during the ascent.
- Players seeking varied combat or broad exploration may find the repeated upward climbing structure narrow.
- Players who dislike taunts from non-player characters may object to reactions following failures.
Our take on Unrooted
The bounce point arrives when a single missed jump can undo the climb’s momentum. Players comfortable with repeated attempts may continue, but anyone expecting frequent checkpoints or low-consequence movement will meet the game’s central punishment system early.
What is Unrooted?
Unrooted is a vertical precision platformer built around difficult jumps and the consequences of missed attempts.
Players climb through hand-painted environments, using the surroundings to plan movement as if solving spatial puzzles. Progress and failure are autosaved after very small events, while non-player characters comment on unsuccessful attempts. The upward journey includes hidden secrets and easter eggs, with each area accompanied by a musical score that shifts between inspiring and haunting moods. The game draws from Jump King and Foddian-style platformers, making individual jumps central to its structure. Reaching higher areas brings greater risk, so a failed maneuver can affect the climb rather than simply resetting a short challenge.
