We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- VR players who prefer avoiding enemies over direct fighting
- Stealth fans who want multiple routes through each level
- Players who enjoy scouting environments for valuable objects
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking combat as the main activity may hit a wall when fighting is optional and sometimes unavailable.
- Players wanting forgiving stealth may bounce off the fatal consequences described for mistakes.
- Players seeking a finished release may hesitate at the current Public Beta stage.
Our take on Unknightly
The bounce point arrives when stealth plans fail: combat cannot always replace detection avoidance, and a mistake may be fatal. Players expecting a finished campaign may also stop at the Public Beta status before reaching the level-by-level choices.
What is Unknightly?
Play as a retired master thief drawn back into his former life to aid an old comrade.
Unknightly is built for virtual reality and centers on stealth, with multiple approaches available for each challenge. Sneak through shadows, avoid brightly lit areas, climb walls, and control noise to keep guards from becoming suspicious. Thrown objects can distract guards and create openings. Combat can remove guards but is optional and may not always be available. Each level offers more than one route to its objective, while exploration involves searching technically challenging environments for valuable items. The game is currently in Public Beta, and mistakes can be fatal.
How Unknightly plays
- 01Shadow-based stealth
- Staying away from bright areas lets the thief remain unseen near guards.
- 02Environmental distractions
- Thrown objects can draw guards away and open a route forward.
- 03Multiple level routes
- Objectives can be approached through different paths rather than one fixed solution.
- 04Optional guard combat
- Guards can sometimes be eliminated, although fighting is not required and is not always possible.
- 05Wall climbing
- Climbing provides another way to move through the medieval environments.
