ActionIs Ultra Age worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-game players who want sword combat built around switching weapons and linking attacks
- Science-fiction story fans who prefer a campaign with cutscenes, characters, and boss encounters
- Players who enjoy escalating combat zones and gear progression in a separate rogue-lite mode
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a slow-paced combat experience may find the emphasis on high-speed fights and combos a poor match.
- Those who prefer a single, uninterrupted campaign may not want a separate floor-based side mode with increasing difficulty.
- Players seeking a game without DLC requirements will need to skip Rebirth Project, which requires DLC installation.
Our take on Ultra Age
The combat centers on blade switching, linked attacks, and fast movement, leaving less room for a slower approach to encounters. Its separate 30-floor side campaign adds a different structure, but requires DLC installation.
What is Ultra Age?
Ultra Age is a science-fiction action game about Age, a young sword-wielding soldier sent to Earth to find a key to humanity’s survival.
Fight mutants and robots using several blades, switching weapons mid-combat to link attacks into combos. Wire skills can pull smaller enemies close, reach larger ones, cross gaps, and collect items. Gather elements to improve blades, learn combos, install modules, and upgrade Age’s gear.
Helvis, a floating android, can trigger a combat burst, restore health, and slow time for looting. The story unfolds through cutscenes across mecha, forest, and desert settings, with characters and bosses. The Rebirth Project side campaign requires DLC installation and sends a reincarnated Age through 30 floors of hexagonal zones with escalating battles, upgrades, monsters, and bosses.
How Ultra Age plays
- 01Switching blade combos
- Changing weapons during a fight links different attacks, with blade attributes and actions suited to different enemies.
- 02Wire traversal skills
- The wire can draw in smaller foes, reach larger targets, cross gaps, and collect items.
- 03Helvis abilities
- Age’s android companion can trigger a combat burst, restore health, or slow time to gather items.
- 04Thirty-floor side campaign
- Rebirth Project has escalating battle zones, new enemies and bosses, and an expanded upgrade system; DLC installation is required.
