Our take on Ultimate General: Gettysburg
Rather than treating strategy as a sequence of isolated encounters, the game carries army positions and conditions across up to 4 days. It also replaces constant unit micromanagement with formations that can realign, withdraw and change targets on their own.
What is Ultimate General: Gettysburg?
Command thousands of Union or Confederate soldiers across a dynamic simulation of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The campaign can last up to 4 days, with each day divided into up to 3 time phases. Reinforcements arrive from historical directions, while delays, random events and tactical decisions can alter later engagements. Nine AI commander personalities use different approaches, including flanking, holding reserves and defending strategic positions. Units can realign, change targets, withdraw and form battle lines without constant micromanagement.
Terrain, elevation, cover, concealment, visibility, fatigue, casualties and morale affect combat. The map represents Gettysburg’s major locations, ridges, hills and buildings. Historical forces include infantry, cavalry, skirmishers, artillery batteries, major generals and other officers who participate on the battlefield and appear in after-action reports.
