Our take on UDONGEIN X
The focus on projectile patterns and boss-specific mechanics leaves less room for exploration or varied combat systems. Difficulty changes also reset the current playthrough, and the highest setting remains unavailable until the game has been completed once.
What is UDONGEIN X?
Guide Reisen Udongein Inaba through 14 stages in a 2D bullet-hell platformer set in the Touhou Project universe.
Stages combine platforming with projectile avoidance, while each boss uses a distinct gimmick that calls for a different strategy. Power Up items collected during stages and boss fights can be invested in upgrades, including increased maximum health and an ability that clears bullets from the screen. The upgrade system can also be ignored for a greater challenge. Three difficulty settings are available: Easy places fewer bullets on screen, while Lunatic unlocks after one completed playthrough. Changing the difficulty resets the current playthrough. Survival mode presents a boss rush with perk choices between progressively harder fights.
