Our take on Tokyo Babel
Players looking for immediate action may bounce when the premise settles into Setsuna’s personal question about continuing to live. The seven-layer pilgrimage and conflict between rival groups frame the journey, but the central pull is the story’s supernatural and existential setup.
What is Tokyo Babel?
Tokyo Babel follows Tendou Setsuna, a young man rescued from the remains of a ruined world by Lilith, the Witch of the Night.
They travel through a floating purgatory modeled after Tokyo, where surviving angels, demons, and humans have gathered after Heaven closed and Hell was flooded. The group seeks to cross Babel’s seven layers and climb Jacob’s Ladder to reopen Heaven’s gates. Their pilgrimage is disrupted by other travelers whose minds have been overtaken by madness and who seek control over the city’s layers. Setsuna continues through this conflict while searching for an answer to why he still wants to live.
