Our take on TOHOTOPIA
The compact match structure trades away the prolonged buildup and late-game development found in longer 4X campaigns. Its focus on quick sessions also limits the amount of time available for extended diplomacy, territorial growth, and empire planning.
What is TOHOTOPIA?
TOHOTOPIA is a casual, turn-based 4X strategy game set in Gensokyo.
Players lead an empire, explore hidden terrain, gather resources, expand borders, improve city tiles, construct buildings, and raise armies. Diplomacy includes alliances and betrayal, while victory comes from defeating rival empires and capturing their cities. The launch version has four factions, each with a distinct hero system, technology tree, and special units. Matches take about 30 minutes. Online multiplayer supports up to four players in the feature overview, while the multiplayer section says the current version supports up to three players. The game also includes achievements, match history, civilization wonders, geographical descriptions, and faction-specific music.
