Our take on The Tree
The focused restoration loop limits the range of activity: sessions center on card placement, tree expansion, and energy recovery rather than combat, exploration, or broader island management. Procedural layouts add variation, but the core objective remains clearing damaged forest objects from each island.
What is The Tree?
The Tree is a minimalist strategy puzzle about bringing forests back to floating islands after fire or deforestation.
Each round opens with five randomly generated cards. Choose a card to plant a tree or a supporting forest object; after each placement, another card joins the row. As trees grow, they clear burnt or cut objects from nearby spaces. Supporting objects can increase the area a tree reaches.
Planting either type of object uses nature energy, which is restored when three supporting objects are added to a tree. The goal is to remove all damaged forest objects from each island through placement choices and energy management. Islands come in different sizes and designs, with temperate, boreal, and tropical forest settings. Procedurally generated damage and planting points create varied layouts across sessions.
How The Tree plays
- 01Randomized Card Line
- Each session presents five generated cards at the outset, then replaces a used card after placement.
- 02Energy Management
- Planting consumes nature energy, while three supporting objects placed around a tree can restore it.
- 03Variable Island Layouts
- Floating islands differ in size, appearance, damaged forest placement, and available planting points.
- 04Forest Settings
- The game includes temperate, boreal, and tropical environments.
