Our take on The Spirit of the Samurai
Instead of centering the adventure on one hero, it divides play among a samurai, a tiny spirit, and a warrior cat, with different roles in combat, platforming, and exploration. Its stop-motion presentation also departs from conventional 2D action-adventure presentation.
What is The Spirit of the Samurai?
The Spirit of the Samurai is a 2D action adventure about Takeshi, a samurai defending his village from an Oni and its undead army.
The journey moves through ruined settlements, caves, cemeteries, and other settings drawn from Japanese mythology and folklore. Play as Takeshi, the small spirit Kodama, and the warrior cat Chisai; each brings a different approach to combat, platforming, and exploration. The game includes weapons from ancient Japan, character-specific special attacks, and custom combos. Defeating enemies grants experience that can improve abilities and stats and unlock moves. Metroidvania elements, hidden secrets, varied controls, and an in-game combo editor shape the adventure.
