Our take on The RPG
Rather than treating fantasy RPG conventions as fixed systems, the game turns them into part of the setting: healing, loot, dungeon maintenance, respawning monsters, and rule-breaking all receive an in-world explanation.
What is The RPG?
This RPG-lite adventure places dungeon exploration inside an Adventure Island attraction.
Adventurers buy a ticket, pass through a turnstile, take an elevator, and select a dungeon floor. Exploration involves fighting, looting, gaining experience, leveling up, and managing torches, targets, moves, and ammunition. Traditional systems are deliberately simplified: bread is used directly on wounds, collected items become loot sold by weight, and leveling exists without complex skill trees or detailed inventory sorting. The island’s administration maintains traps, torches, and monster recovery between raids. Beneath this managed attraction are hidden secrets, a repeating monster cycle, and a Glitchy Dragon that breaks the game’s rules. Choices affect the story, including whether to investigate the dragon’s plan.
How The RPG plays
- 01Simplified RPG Systems
- Leveling and inventory are present without skill trees or item-by-item selling decisions.
- 02Dungeon Floor Selection
- An elevator lets adventurers choose which dungeon level to enter after passing through the attraction’s entrance.
- 03Weight-Based Loot
- Collected objects are grouped as loot and sold according to the pile’s weight.
- 04Maintained Dungeons
- Island workers relight torches, repair traps, and restore monsters after raids.
- 05Story-Altering Choices
- Decisions can change the storyline and whether the Glitchy Dragon’s plan is pursued.
- 06Resource-Focused Combat
- Encounters require planning targets, movement, ammunition, and torch supplies.
