Saves you a refund- Players who want a relaxed pace may find the real-time schedule and fixed duration restrictive.
- Players seeking open-ended play may find the fixed-time structure limiting.
- Players looking for a combat-focused game may find the journalist's investigative role a poor match.
Our take on The Occupation
The real-time schedule gives each decision an immediate cost: time spent exploring or questioning people leaves less time for other leads. That pressure comes at the expense of leisurely investigation, since the fixed duration keeps the player moving.
What is The Occupation?
The Occupation is an investigative thriller set in North West England on Saturday 24th October, 1987.
As a journalist, the player gathers evidence by entering restricted areas and conducting one-on-one interviews. The game follows a fixed schedule: each in-game minute matches a real-world minute, so actions compete with limited time. A watch can set alarms and timers for objectives, including time-delayed safes. The world can be explored in a non-linear order, and objectives allow different approaches. Players may enter an office through a window, find an ID card, or cut power to a room. Security guards monitor activity as the player decides which leads to pursue.
