Our take on The Nightmare Cooperative
Rather than giving each hero an independent turn, the game makes the whole party act as a single formation. This replaces the usual character-by-character structure with shared movement and synchronized special abilities, making coordination the central genre variation.
What is The Nightmare Cooperative?
Lead a group of unlikely comrades through difficult turn-based roguelike levels after a village suffers from reckless spending by its council.
The group must destroy monsters, escape levels, collect gold, or simply survive for a while. Each character contributes a distinct ability: the Warrior fights, the Miner digs through difficult situations, and the Necromancer brings a darker power. The central challenge is controlling everyone as one unit. Moving in a direction moves the entire group, while activating a special ability makes every member act at once. Progress therefore depends on coordinating the group’s shared movement and varied powers while trying to bring resources back to the village.
How The Nightmare Cooperative plays
- 01Shared Group Control
- A directional move applies to every member at the same time.
- 02Distinct Character Powers
- The Warrior, Miner, and Necromancer each contribute a different ability to the group.
- 03Gold Collection
- Levels include gold as a resource to bring back to the village.
- 04Monster Encounters
- The group uses its powers while attempting to destroy monsters.
The Nightmare Cooperative compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike combat, but focuses on positioning, attack tiles, combos, skills, and deck building before a Shogun encounter. The Nightmare Cooperative instead centers on moving a whole group together, using character-specific powers, fighting monsters, escaping levels, and collecting gold.
