Our take on The Inner Friend
Its visual and musical storytelling keeps the interface minimalist, but that choice leaves the narrative without spoken or written explanation. Players must follow imagery and movement to make sense of the Shadow’s memories.
What is The Inner Friend?
The Inner Friend is an adventure through a surreal landscape formed from memories and childhood fears.
Guided by a mysterious Shadow, players move through its subconscious world, encounter frightening beings to evade, and eventually face them. The story is told without words, using movement, imagery, and music. Gameplay includes overcoming obstacles, solving puzzles, and confronting foes. Earning the Shadow’s trust opens additional challenges and story pieces, while collecting artifacts lets players rebuild its safe haven.
