Our take on The Initial
Rather than centering exploration, party management, or long-form questing, this action RPG places its emphasis on fast arena encounters. Enemy weaknesses, vulnerable states, and direct executions replace a simpler pattern of attacking until an opponent falls.
What is The Initial?
The Initial is an action RPG set in SPE, an area containing a school for students with ESP abilities.
Ruri and Erika must stop an organization collecting combat data to create an artificial girl with ultimate power. Battles take place in arenas and emphasize rapid sword attacks, electricity-based powers, blocking, evasion, and openings against enemies that can respond with their own attacks. Skill points unlock additional abilities, while enemy weaknesses and vulnerable states create opportunities for direct executions. The game includes multiple levels and battle zones, traps, varied enemy abilities, and bosses. Four difficulty settings cover different challenge levels.
How The Initial plays
- 01Arena combat
- Battles use enclosed zones where attacks, blocks, evasive moves, and enemy reactions shape each encounter.
- 02Skill point progression
- Skill points can be spent on new abilities for dealing with enemies in different ways.
- 03Weakness-based attacks
- Enemy vulnerabilities can be exploited to defeat them quickly.
- 04Execution opportunities
- Enemies entering a vulnerable state can be finished directly.
- 05Four difficulty levels
- The game offers four settings with different challenge levels.
