Is The Great Rebellion worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want side-scrolling shooting with changing stages
- Fans of cyberpunk settings who prefer retro pixel-art presentation
- Run-based action players seeking weapon variety and optional permadeath
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed, story-led campaign may find the repeated procedural runs less suitable
- Players who prefer relaxed combat may find the run-and-gun focus and permadeath setting demanding
- Players looking for a different genre than cyberpunk 2D shooting may find its scope too focused
Our take on The Great Rebellion
Its run-based structure trades fixed level layouts for procedural variety. That choice can make repeated attempts differ from one another, but it gives up the precise route planning and consistent pacing of a fully scripted campaign.
What is The Great Rebellion?
The Great Rebellion is a 2D cyberpunk shooter combining side-scrolling movement with run-and-gun combat and mouse or twin-stick controls.
Runs take place across randomly generated levels, with multiple difficulty modes and an optional permadeath setting. Combat features more than 60 weapons for fighting robots. Progression includes character upgrades, items, allies, and special powers from the spirits of European heroes. The game is set in a dystopian Europe in the year 20XX, where the Lucis Lux Mega-Corporation controls society. Players take the role of Human 10. 28, who joins the fight against the corporation. Retro pixel-art visuals accompany a soundtrack that changes during play.

The Great Rebellion compared to similar games
Sundered: Eldritch Edition also uses roguelite structure, but presents it as a chaotic metroidvania rather than a 2D cyberpunk run-and-gun shooter with more than 60 weapons. Abyssus focuses on multiplayer shooting through hand-crafted levels and includes weapon refitting with ancient technologies, while The Great Rebellion centers on character upgrades, allies, and optional permadeath.
