Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a long, content-heavy horror campaign may reach the ending within 30–90 minutes.
- Players who dislike repeated inspection and random anomaly patterns may lose patience while filling the collection.
- Players seeking combat-focused horror may find the walking-simulator structure too limited.
Our take on The Golden Retreat
The likely bounce point arrives when anomalies become harder to notice near the lobby. Players who rely on obvious visual changes may stall there, while the random spawning system can add repetition for anyone trying to complete the collection.
What is The Golden Retreat?
The Golden Retreat is a psychological horror walking simulator set in an art deco hotel.
After finishing a bartender’s shift, the player becomes trapped on the ninth floor and must inspect each loop for paranormal changes. Spotting the correct anomaly allows descent by elevator, while mistakes and increasingly subtle events make progress harder. Some anomalies alter small objects, while others present more direct danger. The game records the current floor, errors, monologues, and discovered anomalies automatically. A collection tracks encountered anomalies, though randomly generated appearances can make finding them all repetitive. The main play time is 30–90 minutes, depending partly on the anomalies encountered. A second ending and settings for older systems are also included.
How The Golden Retreat plays

- 04Second ending

- 05Display settings
- Options include resolution scale, window mode, VSync, brightness, depth of field, and reduced head bobbing.
- 06Controller support
- Movement, interaction, running, crouching, menu access, and flashlight control are mapped to a gamepad.
