Our take on The Gap
The defining detail is the contrast between a fixed horror narrative and a separate Free Roam gamemode that removes the linear story’s restrictions.
What is The Gap?
The Gap is a brief horror game played from a first-person perspective, set in a spectral, deserted house at a quiet street corner.
Its story follows a parent whose daughter disappeared years earlier and who remains convinced she is alive and needs help. A letter brings the protagonist to the house, where signs suggest someone is inside. Gameplay uses a limited set of mechanics associated with walking simulators.
The main path unfolds through a linear narrative, while Free Roam lets players explore the world outside that story’s structure. Some passages require moving through near-total darkness; a small light worn on the body illuminates the way. The experience centers on moving through a threatening, atmospheric setting rather than offering a wide range of gameplay systems.
How The Gap plays
- 01Linear Narrative
- The main experience follows a fixed sequence of events connected to the missing daughter.
- 02Free Roam
- This gamemode allows exploration of the game world without the linear story’s restrictions.
- 03Small Body Light
- The handheld light provides illumination when near-complete darkness blocks the way forward.
