Saves you a refund- Players who want unhurried exploration may hit a wall when the candle goes out and the short exit window begins.
- Players who dislike resource pressure may struggle with captures consuming one of only three protective crucifixes.
- Players looking for multiplayer play may not find the described experience suited to that preference.
Our take on The Cullfield Ritual
The pressure point is the Spirit Realm timer: once the candle goes out, only a few seconds remain to escape. A capture also spends one of three crucifixes, so repeated mistakes reduce the protection available for later encounters.
What is The Cullfield Ritual?
The Cullfield Ritual is a horror game about moving between a changed version of a house and the Spirit Realm to solve puzzles and collect five spirit remains.
The goal is to place the remains in a pentagram and bring a loved one back to life. Some puzzles and items can only be found in the Spirit Realm, where a pilgrim wanders and may pursue the player. Entering that realm requires a candle, darkness, and a pentagram drawn with chalk. Time there is limited: if the candle goes out, there are only a few seconds to leave.
The player can hide or return to reality when spotted, but getting caught consumes one of three protective crucifixes. With none left, there is no protection. Preparing the house also involves opening its doors so the pilgrim can move through it.
How The Cullfield Ritual plays
- 01Realm switching
- Certain puzzles and objects appear only in the Spirit Realm, so collecting the remains involves visiting both versions of the house.
- 02Pilgrim pursuit
- The pilgrim follows the player in the Spirit Realm, where hiding or leaving can prevent capture.
- 03Limited protection
- Three crucifixes are available, and each capture uses one.
- 04Candle time limit
- If the candle goes out, only a few seconds remain to exit the Spirit Realm.
