The hardware imitation gives the game a tightly bounded visual and audio identity, but that choice also limits display detail, sprite density, color variety, and sound channels compared with less constrained adventures.
What is Super Squidlit?
Super Squidlit is an adventure game set across the islands of Squishu, where Plip and Skwit Skwot attempt to stop a great evil.
Plip uses a double jump to ink targets beneath him and a rolling tackle to affect enemies and gain speed. Skwit Skwot appears in ray-casting 3D RPG stages and attacks foes with magic. The game presents its world through a recreation of Game Boy Color hardware limits, including a 160 × 144 pixel display, restricted sprite counts, three colors per sprite, and four sound channels. Its music and sound effects were recorded on an actual Game Boy Color. The cast includes various invertebrate characters, with both playable figures contributing to the journey through Squishu.

Vagante presents a dark fantasy adventure built around monsters, demons, crooks, and dangerous underground travel, rather than Super Squidlit's fixed Game Boy Color-style presentation and two-character structure.
