Our take on Storm Boy
The bounce point arrives when the story gives way to the activity set. Players expecting a continuous adventure may lose interest as the experience moves between sand drawing, sailing, fetch, feeding, and other brief seaside diversions rather than building toward complex systems.
What is Storm Boy?
Storm Boy adapts Colin Thiele’s 1964 children’s story into an interactive experience on the South Australian coast by the Murray River outlet.
Players take the roles of the boy and his pelican companion, Mr. Percival, during important episodes such as saving sailors caught in rough weather. The story follows Storm Boy’s bond with a young pelican he takes in after finding orphaned chicks. Alongside these narrative scenes, the game offers brief beach activities, including sketching patterns in sand, sailing, gathering cockles, playing fetch, riding across sand, and giving food to pelicans. Together, the story segments and recreational challenges focus on the pair’s friendship and coastal life.
