Our take on StarbaseSim
The store pitch centers on Mars colonization and a detailed launch sequence, but the current game is an early-stage launch-site sandbox. Orbital flight and rocket interiors are unavailable, while co-op remains rough and updates are expected to be small and infrequent.
What is StarbaseSim?
StarbaseSim is a physics sandbox about operating a full-scale rocket launch site.
Players can move around on foot or in flight, use transporters and lifting equipment, assemble a two-stage vehicle, fuel it, launch it, perform hot staging, and attempt to recover both stages at the launch site. Flight can be mostly automated or controlled manually, including PID settings for angular velocity. The simulation uses simplified physics and provides in-game hints and tooltips, but few tutorials or explanations. Co-op supports the same activities, although the mode remains rough. Earth-orbit flight and rocket interiors are not currently available. Moon and Mars content, along with other additions, are planned while the game remains in Early Access.
How StarbaseSim plays
- 01Launch Site Operations
- Players use transporters, lifting equipment, launch mounts, and fuel systems to prepare a two-stage vehicle.
- 02Manual Flight Control
- Rocket behavior can be managed directly, including PID settings for angular velocity.
- 03Stage Recovery
- After launch and hot staging, both vehicle stages can return toward the site for attempted catches.
- 04Co-op Multiplayer
- The launch and recovery activities can be performed with other players, although the mode is still rough.
