Our take on Spirit
The defining mechanic is energy control: giving or removing energy changes whether animals, plants and minerals multiply, stop reproducing or die.
What is Spirit?
Spirit is a casual ecosystem sandbox set on an empty island.
As a stranded spirit, the player gives or removes energy from animals, plants and minerals, causing species to multiply, stop reproducing or die. New inhabitants appear over time, while land expands and changing weather, disasters and the day-night cycle affect the ecosystem. Animals have different diets, so the food chain must remain balanced. Free Mode allows selection of starting objects from unlocked content and focuses on developing a thriving island. Adventure Mode contains 9 missions with specific objectives and unlocks additional creatures, plants and minerals for Free Mode.
How Spirit plays
- 01Energy-based ecosystem
- Adding energy supports reproduction, while removing it can stop growth or cause species to die.
- 02Animal food chains
- Different diets make food availability a factor in maintaining animal populations.
- 03Changing island conditions
- Land growth, weather, disasters and the day-night cycle alter spawning and animal behavior.
- 04Nine Adventure missions
- Adventure Mode presents short objectives and unlocks creatures, plants and minerals for Free Mode.
- 05Configurable Free Mode
- Starting objects can be chosen from creatures, plants and minerals already unlocked.
