Our take on Spiral
Its focus on Bernard’s memories gives the story a personal scale, but limits the design mainly to exploration and memory-based mini-games. The changing perspective connects gameplay to the subject matter while making the experience less mechanically consistent.
What is Spiral?
Spiral is a third-person narrative exploration game following Bernard Penfield through five stages of life.
Players accompany him as he navigates changes in his mind and reconnects with memories involving family, friends, and childhood activities. As the story progresses, cognitive degeneration affects Bernard’s perspective, the way he tells his story, and how the game is played. Exploration can uncover moments hidden within his memories. The game includes 19 fully explorable memories, several mini-games connected to those memories, and a cast voiced in English and French. An original soundtrack accompanies the journey, which is estimated to take 8–10 hours.
