Our take on Sphoxie

The store page gives equal weight to visual presentation, customization, and broad feature counts, while the playable structure centers on repeated cube collection, time management, and platforming across 24 levels. Race mode also removes enemies and yellow cubes, making it a narrower time-trial variant.

What is Sphoxie?

Sphoxie is a physics-based rolling adventure game about guiding a spiky character through a box-like world after a portal separates him from home.

Each of the 24 levels contains four red cubes needed to open its exit, with walls and steep slopes that can be climbed using the character’s spikes. Enemies and falls reduce available time, while yellow and red cubes and defeated enemies can restore it. A shock-wave attack can push enemies away and is used during three boss fights. The game includes three worlds, achievements, leaderboards, character customizations, and a race mode that removes enemies and yellow cubes while recording speed-focused times. Keyboard, mouse, and controller controls are supported.

How Sphoxie plays

Four red cubes must be collected in each level before its exit becomes available.
02Wall Climbing
The character’s spikes allow movement up selected walls and steep inclines.
03Time Management
Enemies and falls consume time, while certain cubes and defeated enemies add time back.
04Shock-Wave Attack
Hard impacts trigger an attack that sends nearby enemies away.
05Boss Battles
Three bosses must be knocked from their platforms to open access to later worlds.
06Race Mode
Levels can be replayed without enemies or yellow cubes to pursue faster recorded times.
07Character Unlocks
Completing specified objectives unlocks cosmetic options such as tails and sunglasses.
08Control Options
Movement and camera controls are available through keyboard and mouse or through a controller.

Sphoxie compared to similar games

Sphoxie uses rolling movement, collectible cubes, time management, enemy knockback, and boss fights across 24 levels, while Jusant centers on climbing a tall tower, managing stamina, exploring routes, and uncovering the history of a vanished civilization.
