Our take on Speed Limit
The rapid genre shifts keep the game focused on changing arcade challenges, but leave little room for extended depth in any one style. Players looking for a sustained shooter, racer, or flight experience may find the variety comes at the cost of continuity.
What is Speed Limit?
Speed Limit is an arcade game that shifts between different styles of play, drawing on the golden age of arcade games.
Its sequences include a side-scrolling shooter, a top-down car chase, and a fake-3D dogfight, with changes arriving as the player progresses. Movement, driving, and flying are all controlled directly, and repeated deaths are part of the experience. An unlockable endless mode adds a separate way to play. The game uses hand-drawn, frame-by-frame graphics and includes a 40-minute soundtrack and a 44-page artbook with material about its inspirations. A Kiosk Mode recreates arcade cabinet use and supports coin-operated cabinets and custom control boards, with settings for coin slots and credits.
