Is Spartan worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Platformer fans who want branching routes and backtracking
- Action players seeking a 2D campaign with traps and boss fights
- Players who enjoy collectible-focused level exploration
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, linear platformer may find the 4-world, 24-level structure too involved.
- Players who prefer low-pressure movement may find the stated challenging gameplay and precision-focused controls demanding.
- Players looking for a primarily story-driven adventure may find the emphasis on traversal, collectibles and combat too mechanical.
Our take on Spartan
The game trades a simple forward-running structure for open level navigation and collection work. Returning through previously visited areas and gathering required artifacts adds route planning, but it also makes progression less direct than a strictly linear platformer.
What is Spartan?
Spartan is a 2D action platformer set in 500 BC, where Leonidas investigates stolen weapons, armor and gold after magical portals appear across ancient Greece.
Movement includes running, jumping, climbing, clinging, pushing, stomping and slicing, alongside enemy encounters, traps and boss battles. Its four worlds contain 24 levels with branching routes, coins, artifacts and chests. Players can revisit areas, replay unlocked levels and activate escape portals after recovering required items. Checkpoints and minimal loading follow failed attempts, while Wimp Mode doubles health. The game includes an original soundtrack, crisp detailed handcrafted art, physics-based mesh animation and more than 20 hours of stated gameplay, with additional content tied to gallery completion and learning ancient Greek words.
