Our take on C.A.R.L.
The level-based structure gives each factory run a clear focus, but limits the sense of a continuous, freely traversable world. Exploration involves returning to earlier stages with new abilities rather than moving through one uninterrupted map.
What is C.A.R.L.?
C.
A. R. L. is a 2D puzzle adventure set inside the Kent Industries factory, where a small robot searches for Tech Units and investigates the facility’s secrets. Gameplay combines platforming challenges with doors, switches, levers, hidden passages, and deadly machinery. The D. U. M. P. acts as a central hub, housing defective robots who provide support during the adventure, while progression takes place through separate factory-floor levels. New abilities open additional areas and secret routes, with collectibles and easter eggs placed throughout completed stages. The game includes quirky RPG and story elements, off-beat humor, and an original soundtrack inspired by 8-bit and DOS-era sound chips.

C.A.R.L. compared to similar games
C.A.R.L. combines 2D platforming, mechanical puzzles, ability-based backtracking, and a robot-led narrative, while Jusant focuses on climbing tools, stamina management, and exploring different routes up a tower. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a platforming adventure, but its description emphasizes chaotic metroidvania gameplay rather than C.A.R.L.’s segmented factory levels, puzzles, and hub-based story.
