Our take on Soviet City
Rather than treating city building as a mainly economic exercise, the game makes terror a central management variable. The mayor must keep it high enough to satisfy the regime but low enough to avoid rebellion, replacing standard city-builder stability with political risk.
What is Soviet City?
Soviet City is a city-building strategy game built around short play sessions.
As mayor, the player manages construction, limited materials, workers, and five-year plans within a Soviet political and economic system. Each building changes a terror level that affects building and soviet effectiveness. Excessive terror can trigger rebellion, while too little may lead the dictator to remove the mayor. Disobedient people can obstruct plans, and keeping citizens working is part of maintaining the city. Games vary, and unlocked perks require changes to building strategy at higher levels. The presentation draws on Soviet-bloc architecture, El Lissitzky-inspired graphics, and Soviet dubstep or techno music.

Soviet City compared to similar games
Soviet City focuses on short city-building sessions in which construction, limited materials, worker disobedience, and terror determine whether the regime continues. Xenonauts centers on turn-based squads defending Earth from aliens, while Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation concerns managing vast armies across an entire world. Old World instead follows an empire across generations, with political marriages, heirs, and long-term legacy management.
