Our take on Songbringer
Procedural generation and non-linear progression create varied quest routes, but they give up a fixed world structure. Players who want every location, puzzle, and dungeon to remain in a known order may find the changing layouts and seed-based runs less predictable.
What is Songbringer?
Songbringer is a science-fiction action RPG with roguelike and metroidvania elements.
Each quest begins with a six-letter seed that generates the planet, overworld, secrets, and dungeons. The open, non-linear world allows dungeons to be tackled in different orders, or the sword to be ignored. Roq and Jib can uncover nine dungeons per world, including puzzle-focused areas, hidden side quests, and difficult combat zones. Roq collects items, combines some into artifacts, and progresses by defeating enemies, bosses, and claiming lost technology rather than earning XP.
Jib can scan defeated foes for loot and stun enemies. The AI-controlled companion can also be played by a second player in local co-op. Quest scores track completion time, map coverage, items collected, and regular or permadeath mode.
How Songbringer plays
- 01Seeded world generation
- A six-letter seed creates the planet, overworld, secrets, and dungeons, with the same seed producing the same world across platforms.
- 02Nine dungeons
- Each world contains nine discoverable dungeons that can include puzzles, side quests, abilities, mobs, and bosses.
- 03Artifact crafting
- Some discovered items can be combined at the droidsmith aboard Songbringer to create distinct artifacts.
- 04AI companion
- Jib scans defeated enemies for possible loot and can gain the ability to stun foes.
- 05Local co-op
- A second player can control Jib while Roq remains the main character.
- 06Seed leaderboards
- Quest scores use completion time, map coverage, item collection, and regular or permadeath mode, then sort results by world seed.
