Our take on SomnaBuster
The movement system takes priority over broader genre systems. Players get a platformer built around broom launches, bouncing, hazards, and speed control, but not the party management, gear progression, or open-ended exploration found in larger adventure and role-playing games.
What is SomnaBuster?
SomnaBuster is a 2D platformer set in Esperanto, a dreamworld shaped by hearts and dreams.
Players control Macy’s witch-like counterpart and use the Broomburst ability to launch across stages, bounce from enemies and walls, and move at different speeds. Levels include hazards and objects such as vines, trumpet-shaped tunnels, and roads drawn with a stylus. Each world ends with a boss encounter, including a DJ and an ice monster. The game features fantasy settings, a soundtrack built with YM2151 and Sega PCM sound chips, webcomic-style animated cutscenes, and master levels containing hidden items and bonus features. English and Spanish text are supported.
How SomnaBuster plays
- 01Broom Propulsion
- The Broomburst move launches the character forward and can chain into bounces against enemies, walls, and other objects.
- 02Moving Environments
- Stages use more than two dozen environmental interactions, including vines, tunnels, and player-drawn paths.
- 03World Bosses
- Boss encounters appear at the end of each world and include a DJ and a rampaging ice creature.
- 04Master Levels
- Additional stages contain hidden items and unlockable bonus features.
- 05Bilingual Text
- Text can be displayed in English or Spanish.
SomnaBuster compared to similar games
SomnaBuster focuses on 2D platforming with broom-based propulsion, environmental movement, world-ending bosses, and mastery stages. SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER combines running, jumping, dodging, and shooting, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania rather than a platformer centered on broom movement and dreamworld hazards.
