Our take on Solar War
The defining structure is a turn-based campaign that starts with defending Earth and expands outward through diplomacy, planetary bases, and spaceship battles as the conflict moves toward the aliens' base.
What is Solar War?
Solar War is a turn-based grand strategy game set in the near-future Solar System.
Players lead Earth's defense against an alien invasion arriving from the system's edge, negotiate with Earth's governments to gain support, and expand the campaign toward the invaders' base. The campaign extends beyond Earth through bases on other planets, bringing the fight across the Solar System. Players also design and build spaceships before taking them into battle. The game combines familiar ideas from several classic strategy subgenres while focusing on protecting Earth and contesting control of the Solar System.
How Solar War plays
- 01Government negotiations
- Diplomatic dealings with Earth's governments can secure support for the defense effort.
- 02Planetary expansion
- Bases on other planets extend the campaign beyond Earth and bring the conflict closer to the alien base.
- 03Spaceship construction
- Players design and build spaceships before taking them into battle.
Solar War compared to similar games
Xenonauts also centers on defending Earth from an alien invasion, but uses small squads of persistent soldiers and technology recovery in turn-based operations. Solar War instead combines government negotiations, bases on other planets, and spaceship construction within a campaign across the Solar System.
