Our take on SodaCity
Its defining format is a shooter built around the tilted, 2.5D presentation and territory progression of classic beat ’em ups, with separate stages for the seven bosses.
What is SodaCity?
Play as Mr.
Redd, a retired bounty hunter pursuing the crime groups responsible for his brother’s death. SodaCity combines shooting with the angled perspective and territory-clearing structure associated with classic beat ’em ups. The campaign spans 18 levels across 6 zones, with each zone ending in a separate boss stage. Seven bosses use distinct attacks, while enemy strength and behavior develop as the campaign progresses. Players can choose from 38 weapons, each differentiated by damage, range, clip capacity, reload speed, and firing rate. A kill can trigger a temporary bullet-time effect that slows time while Mr. Redd moves faster than enemies; extending the combo meter can lengthen it. The game supports controllers.
How SodaCity plays
- 01Upgradeable weapon set
- The 38 weapons vary across damage, range, magazine size, reload speed, and rate of fire.
- 02Six-zone campaign
- The story is arranged across 18 stages as Mr. Redd dismantles the city’s criminal organization.
- 03Distinct boss stages
- Seven crime-group leaders appear in dedicated levels with attacks that create different challenges.
- 04Temporary time slowdown
- Some kills activate a limited effect that slows time and lets the player move faster than enemies, with combo-based extensions.
- 05Controller support
- The game was developed and tested with wired Xbox 360 controllers on PC and PS3 controllers on Mac.
SodaCity compared to similar games
SodaCity combines beat ’em up structure with shooting, whereas SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER centers on running, jumping, dodging, and shooting. Hentai Vs Furries is a third-person shooter with multiple camera angles, quests, skins, and emotes, while SodaCity uses a fixed tilted perspective and a staged campaign. Abyssus focuses on multiplayer shooting and roguelite progression, unlike SodaCity’s solo, zone-based campaign.
