We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-game players who want short, 20-minute combat runs rather than long sessions
- Players who enjoy steering and routing through open oceans instead of stationary combat
- Players who like combining relics and upgrades but do not want every run to use the same setup
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want to stop and plan at a standstill may find constant ship movement limiting
- Players looking for a gentle, unchanging difficulty curve may not enjoy escalating Infamy tiers
- Players seeking a crafting-focused survival game may find the focus on combat and ship upgrades too narrow
Our take on Sea of Survivors
The ship’s constant motion keeps navigation central to every encounter, but removes the option to pause movement and hold position. That trade-off favors continuous steering over stationary planning, including during fights and exploration.
What is Sea of Survivors?
Sea of Survivors is an action game built around a ship that cannot stop moving.
Steer through open oceans with distinct biomes and factions while battling pirates, sea monsters, and other enemies. Runs last 20 minutes, with experience gained from combat used to level up and select ship upgrades. Explore islands, claim their treasures, and face the foes guarding them. Rescued crew members have randomized traits and can join the voyage. Relics and upgrades can be combined to create different synergies from run to run. Doubloons collected from defeated enemies fund permanent ship upgrades. Bounties unlock achievements and additional content, while 20 Infamy tiers raise the difficulty. New oceans can be generated to create different routes.
How Sea of Survivors plays
- 01Permanent ship upgrades
- Doubloons collected from defeated enemies can be spent on upgrades that persist between runs.
- 02Randomized crew traits
- Rescued crew members bring varied traits when recruited for a voyage.
- 03Infamy difficulty tiers
- Progressing through 20 tiers increases enemy toughness and overall challenge.
- 04Generated oceans
- Newly created oceans change the routing challenges on voyages.
