We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Horror adventure players who want a single-player investigation with a changing environment
- Players who prefer non-linear mysteries with limited guidance
- Narrative-focused players who enjoy rotating between characters with distinct abilities
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a long campaign may find the approximately 10-hour playthrough brief
- Players who prefer fixed maps and familiar routes may find the rearranging village and unguided exploration demanding
- Players looking for combat-focused action may find the emphasis on investigation, puzzles, and resource use too restrained
Our take on Saturnalia
The changing maze gives repeated attempts a different structure, but it also sacrifices a fixed sense of place. Routes, shortcuts, and spatial familiarity can become unreliable after a full-party death, making exploration less predictable than in a static adventure.
What is Saturnalia?
Saturnalia is a single-player survival horror adventure set in an isolated village in Sardinia, Italy.
Four characters investigate a ritual connected to the village’s traditions, with each character offering a distinct ability for exploration and investigation. The village forms a maze that changes after all characters die, while narrative and puzzle progress carries into subsequent attempts. Exploration is largely unguided, and tools, consumables, matches, and shortcuts support movement through new areas. Puzzles are tied to the environment and story rather than presented as separate challenges. The narrative progresses non-linearly and adapts to play. A playthrough takes approximately 10 hours and can lead to several endings.
