Our take on Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege
The stage-based format keeps the adventure focused on discrete levels and boss encounters, but gives up the broader structure associated with open-ended action games.
What is Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege?
Play as Rudiger, an ex-soldier turned farmer, in a 2D action game styled after NES-era releases.
Set in late-17th-century Europe, the story follows his fight against Father Pacer, a priest who steals Catholic relics and commands monsters and minions across the Holy Roman Empire. The campaign contains 21 stages and supports two-player cooperative play. Combat features seven boss encounters, enemies, gore, and choices that can help or harm people encountered along the way. Animal familiars can be found and befriended, while upgrades and bonuses become available during the campaign. Pixel art and an 8-bit chiptune soundtrack support the setting. Additional challenges, achievements, and passwords provide reasons to revisit completed playthroughs.
