Our take on S-mail
The email format keeps the experience focused on written exchanges and response choices, but sacrifices broader interaction such as exploration, combat, or extensive gameplay systems. The approximately 1–2-hour runtime also limits the amount of narrative development in each playthrough.
What is S-mail?
S-mail is an email-based emotional storytelling game set in an imagined science-fiction future in 2057.
After losing a lover named May, the protagonist begins receiving messages from an AI version of her. Players select replies, and those choices influence her attitude, behavior, development, and later messages. The game includes 50,000 words, more than 40 CG illustrations excluding variants, 8 original music tracks, and 5 endings. One playthrough takes approximately 1–2 hours. May can send photos and create music as her consciousness develops. The game includes LGBTQ+ themes and may download files to the device during intended gameplay. It contains no AI-generated art, text, or music.
