Our take on Rustwing
Its defining structure is a run across a randomly generated star map: three of five sectors must be crossed, with a boss battle closing each sector.
What is Rustwing?
Rustwing is a roguelike twin-stick space shooter set in a far-future era of divided humanity.
Each attempt builds a new star-chart containing combat zones, allied outposts, and unusual discoveries. The journey spans five regions, but completing three is enough to end a run; every region concludes with a boss fight. Although the destination region does not change, the route to it is rearranged each time. Battles present varied objectives.
The ship carries a pair of side-mounted weapons that fire on their own, a primary gun controlled by the pilot, and a special skill. Finding replacement gear alters its arsenal, while battle experience grants passive abilities. Runs involve moving between stellar systems, investigating sectors, confronting human factions, stopping at stations, and uncovering anomalies.

- 03Configurable Ship Weapons

- A special ability provides another combat option that can affect battles in different ways.
- 05Passive Trait Progression
- Experience earned during battles unlocks passive traits with different effects.
Rustwing compared to similar games
Rustwing combines twin-stick spaceship combat with generated star-system routes, sector progression, and ship weapon customization. Quasimorph is also a roguelike, but centers on corporate contracts and extracting resources from missions rather than traveling between star systems and completing sector routes.
