Is Rune Coliseum worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike fans who want deck-building gladiator combat
- Strategy players who enjoy arranging actions before attacks
- RPG players interested in recruiting and training a roster of warriors
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking uninterrupted real-time combat may find queued actions too deliberate
- Players who prefer one fixed protagonist may not enjoy managing a roster of gladiators
- Players looking for broad exploration may find the focus on arena battles and base development narrow
Our take on Rune Coliseum
The roster-and-legacy structure trades a single-character progression arc for managing multiple gladiators. Retiring fighters and training replacements makes roster turnover part of play, but keeps the focus on the stable of warriors rather than one hero's journey.
What is Rune Coliseum?
Rune Coliseum is a deck-building roguelike centered on semi-real-time gladiator combat.
Players train warriors, arrange actions in a queue, and combine weapons, skills, equipment, and magic in elimination battles. Weapon styles include sword and shield, two-handed weapons, spears, dual wielding, and combat. Gladiators can be recruited, trained, sent into tournaments, and retired as part of a legacy system. Resources earned in battle can be used to develop a base. Ancient magic can affect fights, and interactions between gladiators may lead to friendships or rivalries. Tournament Mode is for training gladiators, while Sacrifice Mode offers faster character growth.
